In CICLO, artists will collaborate with teachers in the classrooms – and in some schools the teachers and artists may be the same person. The artists will structure and catalyse the creative process in the classroom and inspire the students in their work. Most students will hopefully experience the artists as a true resource in their creative process, as the artists will elicit new ideas assisted by the teacher. The strength of the collaboration between the artists and the teacher is that each professional bring refinement and quality to the students’ artistic products.
Expectations and agreements
Arts education is exciting for both students and teachers. Everyone will benefit greatly from the collaboration with the artists and the communication with a twin group from another country. However, misunderstandings could become a reality when several people and organisations are involved in the organising process – too many cooks spoil the broth.
In order to avoid difficulties, it is necessary to match individual expectations for the project, to establish precise objectives and aims and to have specific agreements and arrangements. All the coordinating partners in each country have, fortunately, already established a number of agreements with schools, teachers and artists.
Hopefully, mutual agreements can be adjusted and be brought up to date as the project develops in order for it to be successful.
CICLO Time table
Differences in time tables:
One challenge is that since Cape Town/South Africa and Rio de Janeiro/Brazil is on the southern hemisphere and St. Petersburg/Russia and Denmark is on the northern hemisphere, CICLO works between schools with fundamental different school years and opposite summer holidays. In addition, local differences in other holidays will occur – e.g. in Rio the Carnival in the beginning of March.
The consequence is that it will not be able to apply exactly the same time-table. You will therefore see that the common CICLO time-table reflects these differences.
General time table
This general CICLO time-table expresses the common phases elements in the project. Only dates for blogpostings and UNESCO Arts Education Week are global. Time for phases will locally be applied in different ways and time.
Final planning by teachers (in Brazil/RSA due to SH/Carnival until mid March)

Reflection on project and “re-imagining my hood”
- Each class reflects on same questions and presents themselves with one photo on CICLO web. See “A presentation of the class” for more information.
- Artist/teachers start exploring/reflecting their chosen local questions with the students in the class
April – mid May:
- Each class works with teacher/artist on art-rich creative expressions related to theme
- Class also agrees with teacher/artist on what to communicate on blog to partner class though photo, drawings, videos or as appropriate. Deadlines for posts are:

- 13. May – Deadline for 3. blog post
Mid May – 23rd May:
- Each class prepares for the final presentation in performance/exhibition
- Between 19th and 23rd May – UNESCO global Arts Education Week:
All classes in each country gather in the agreed venues in respectively Copenhagen, Cape Town, Rio de Janeiro and St. Petersburg to for the final performance/exhibition.

Please note that this is a general checklist, which should function as an inspiration for teachers and artists. This list may be amended by the CICLO coordinator in your country according to local agreements.
Presenting your class on CICLO’s web site
Name and e-mail of each teacher of each class involved in CICLO should be sent to national coordinator and international coordinator before February 19th 2014. International coordinator is Sara Line Batson, E: email@example.com.
The responsible teacher must submit the students’ collective answers to the questionnaire and matching photos before February 28th (or later if such date is agreed). See the questionnaire here. The answers and photo should be attached in an e-mail forwarded to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Presenting creative work from your class on CICLO Blog
Please read the specific requirements pertaining to the blog and the step-by-step manual: “How to place material in the class blog”. The short version is:
The teachers of the two groups of students should confirm to each other by e-mail that they will send material before or by the deadlines for the blogposts and how they would like to present them. (see page 25).
- First blog post: 7th April of March 2014
- Second blog post: the 24th of April 2014
- Third blog post: the 13th of May 2014
The teacher responsible for the class is responsible for producing the content in cooperation with the class, and for keeping the three deadlines unless another person is appointed
Products presented at the final exhibit
Make sure to note what has been agreed upon concerning the final performances and/or exhibitions at UNESCO Arts Education Week in week 21 (May 19-23) with the other groups of classes in your specific city/town/country?
- Write a list of product and activities, which are presented during the workshop at the final exhibit.
- Note the person responsible for each specific detail at the final presentation.
Informing parents and students
- How, when and in what way should parents and students be informed about the project?
- Is additional parental consent forms necessary in your school?
- If yes – who is responsible for distribution and collecting the consent forms?
Action plan and important dates to remember
A time schedule has already been or will be prepared and approved by participating artists and teachers. Remember to adjust the schedule as the project develops and progresses.
Before the first lesson with visiting artists
- Make agreements concerning content and activities with the artists.
- Who is responsible for what?
- What should the group of students learn and/or prepare for the next visit?
- Note which materials and equipment that should be booked/provided for.
At the end of each lesson
Evaluate each lesson with the students
Each lesson should also be evaluated by teachers and artists
- What was successful?
- What was not successful?
- Which changes are necessary for the next lesson?
End each lesson with a “to-do list” of responsibilities and tasks for the next lesson
For the entire period and project an evaluation form for each class will be produced and made available at the CICLO web by April.
